The Time to Live and The Time to die III

77 x 102 cm, 2019-20

Sovereign  Asian art prize 2021, finalist

The time to live and the time to die series draws inspiration from Hou Hsiao-hsien's A Tirne to Live, A Time to Die, where memory, place, and the slow erosion of childhood form an inseparable field. Through gated thresholds, ritual scenes, and fleeting gestures, these paintings revisit the New Village as both a lived space and a container of loss. Figures drift like returning ghosts, suspended between intimacy and distance. In tracing these everyday moments, I try to understand how time softens, bruises, and ultimately shapes the fragile passages between living and leaving.
